Introduction
The Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce Mid-Atlantic Chapter, Incorporated (NACC MA) is a non-profit organization formed to promote trade, create business opportunities, professional interests, and goodwill between Norway and the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region.
It is important to expand, and strengthen the cooperation between Americans and Norwegians especially in the Mid-Atlantic region where Norwegian business and promotion activities have been minimal. During the past 5 years several new political and business initiatives have developed. For instance, the creation of the annual Norwegian Christmas at Union Station, the Norway Caucus in the Senate and the Friends of Norway Caucus in the House of Representatives, the initiation of new political strategies for Norwegian-U.S relations, and the establishment of the Norwegian Research Forum.
Many influential Norwegians and Americans with business interests in Norway live and work in this region. This resource of knowledge and experience presents great opportunities to enhance Norwegian-American relations. Henry Ford once said: Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success. The NACC MAs mission is to become a successful, and influential business promotion organization where members can work together in a joint effort to build stronger bonds across the Atlantic.
The Mid-Atlantic Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce
The Mid-Atlantic Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce is bringing people together and is privileged to have board members and permanent committees with experienced professionals who represent a broad diversity within important public and private sectors. As experienced leaders, they are instrumental in developing programs to create goodwill, and discover business opportunities through meetings and social functions, to benefit the needs of member companies and individuals.
The NACC MAs structure of combining the functions of board members and committee chairpersons greatly strengthens the active, hands-on management and exchange of information that will characterize the organization in its effort to create business opportunities, joint ventures, and enhance development of trade and goodwill between Norway and the U.S.
Committees
The committees are divided into business sectors, supported by Norwegian political initiatives to strengthen the business and political ties that bind our two countries. The committees now being established include:
Travel & Tourism, International Bank, Shipping & Aviation Technologies, Energy & Environment, Science & Technology, Defense Technologies, IT & Communication, Government Relations, Seafood & Aquaculture, Juniors & Education, Social & Culture, and Press & Marketing.
Our Honorary Chairperson
The Mid-Atlantic Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce is fortunate to have the Honorable Knut Vollebæk, the Norwegian Ambassador to the United States, and former Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, as our Honorary Chairperson. Earlier, as head of the United Nations Organization for Security and Cooperation, he played a key role in negotiating a successful peace agreement ending the war in Kosovo. During his career, he has developed close relations with many political figures and American officials.
Activities
The chamber shall actively conduct targeted efforts to fulfill its purpose, and mission. Regular activities shall include meetings in permanent and special committees and events such as golf and other sports gatherings, exhibitions, seminars, festivals, executive round table conferences, and executive travel seminars between Norway and the U.S., and the Annual Member and Board of Directors Meeting.
Areas of interest
The Mid-Atlantic region is defined as District of Columbia, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania West Virginia, and Delaware. It is a very promising area for Norwegian export of goods and services. This region, with a growing population of 30 million, and an expanding economic base, is an ideal environment for trade between Norway and the United States through the various activities of the Mid-Atlantic Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce.
